Outside, Outside Again (Forwards, Backwards), 1990
This painting preceded the rest of the Eisenstein paintings. It followed logically from my other work that I should have first thought of the question of the oblique in these terms, it’s directly related to work like Distraction and it made sense to me to think first of a frontal square with an oblique margin.
The painting is currently lost. It was on consignment to Doug Christmas at ACE Gallery, Los Angeles, and was shown there. Since then it may have been sold in two parts. Research has yielded an old auction house record that suggests as much. Any information of the whereabouts of all or part of this work would be appreciated.
